About MeDr Hunter was a son of Mr James Hunter (Hall Russell & Co), and graduated in medicine at Aberdeen University in 1891. Before going abroad, Dr Hunter, who was a young man of excellent parts, had considerable professional experience. During 1892 and 1893 he acted as assistant medical officer in the Montrose Royal Asylum and the year following he spent in study at the medical schools of Gottingen and Vienna. In 1897 he was appointed to the staff of the Aberdeen Dispensary, and that position he held until he left Aberdeen to take up the duties of a medical officer to the West African Frontier Force. Dr Hunter also carried on a considerable private practice. (From In Memoriam, 1899 which credits the source as the Daily Free Press.
Dr Hunter was the brother of Mary Hunter who married Alexander Duthie.
Alexander and Mary's daughter Gladys gave a large collection of shipbuilding/family material to Aberdeen Maritime Museum in the early 1980s.
