Re-framing the Collection
Owned by John Henderson, planter and quarryman. Henderson ran the Friendship Estate in Jamaica. Married to Helen, niece of Dr. Charles Irvine of Aberdeen (from whom she inherited a share of the Friendship Estate). John Henderson had a "black servant", Thomas, whom he brought back from Jamaica.
Henderson used his Jamaica fortune to improve his estate, including road-making and opening the Dyce quarry (granite from Henderson's quarry was used in construction of West India Dock, Sheerness Dock, London Bridge and Custom House).
