Lennox Dunbar

Aberdeen, Scotland, born 1952
About MeLennox Dunbar studied at Gray’s School of Art.

Dunbar’s studio practice involves no definite plan for a work, but allows ideas to emerge organically and spontaneity plays a key role. A knowledge and understanding of grammar and language of art and a series of references provide the basis for a range of ideas. There begins a process of discovery, invention and a curious desire to reveal something new and exciting that allows the artist to view things in a different way. The paintings are constructed from many references, from experiences noted while travelling, to building reconstruction in rural Aberdeenshire.

Lennox Dunbar is Emeritus Professor, Gray’s School of Art. His most recent solo exhibitions include: 2009 Municipal Museum of Fine Art, Gyor, Hungary, 2008 Panter and Hall, London.
