Born in Torry and educated at Robert Gordon’s College, he qualified as an architect in 1922. He established his own practice and enjoyed considerable success in Aberdeen and the North East, including the creation of Aberdeen’s Regent Cinema in 1932. As a local councillor he was responsible for improving housing standards within Aberdeen. Founder of the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture at Robert Gordon University.
