About MeAngus Neil was a friend and fellow artist of Joan Eardley and during the 1950s, when they were both living in Glasgow, painted similar subjects to her, such as the working class children living in the Gorbals, where they were also residents.

This study of a boy, seated in profile in the artist's studio, has a mood of quiet contemplation. The sitter seems unconscious of the world around him and unaware of how he appears. Neil enhances the intimacy of the scene by his use of subdued colours with which he delineates the child's dark features, grazed knees and relaxed pose.

More About Me
He seems lost to the world, but the grazed knees show he's not always so still!
