About MeKeiko Mukaide was born in Japan but now lives and works in Fife. She is currently a Research Fellow at Edinburgh College of Art.She has an international reputation as a glass artist and among other awards was shortlisted for the 1998 Jerwood Prize for the Applied Arts and in 2006 completed a site-specific installation entitled 'Light of the North' for Tate St Ives.
Her work is inspired by the sea and the landscape around her and by the qualities of natural light. She uses the translucent and prismatic properties of glass as a metaphor for the seen and unseen forces of nature.
