About MeThe artist is interested in the way in which glass can metamorphose from one state to another while it is in the kiln or being blown, changing from solid to liquid at different temperatures. This sculpture captures the natural world in motion - the flowing stream - whilst also exploring the effect of light on water.Keiko Mukaide was born in Japan but now lives and works in Fife. She has an international reputation as a glass artist and among other awards was shortlisted for the 1998 Jerwood Prize for the Applied Arts and in 2006 completed a site-specific installation entitled 'Light of the North' for Tate St Ives.
Her work is inspired by the sea and the landscape around her and by the qualities of natural light. She uses the translucent and prismatic properties of glass as a metaphor for the seen and unseen forces of nature.

"Glass is what first brought me to Scotland over twenty years ago. My roots were cultivated in Japan a long time ago and are still the basis of my fundamental creative thinking." Keiko Mukaide
