About MeSusie Cooper started work as a paintress at the Stoke-on-Trent company of A.E. Gray & Co. in 1922. Although Grays produced stylish modern designs, she was not content to remain with the firm as she wanted to have full control of the design process – both shape and surface pattern. She left in 1929 to establish the Susie Cooper Pottery – at that time a bold move for a woman. This popular pattern, Graduated Black Bands, was produced from around 1933 to 1940 and is seen here on her Kestrel shape.More About Me
Susie Cooper had a love for nature from a young age. Her pottery's logo consisted of a leaping deer, and many of her ceramic designs were named after birds, such as Kestrel, Falcon, and Wren.
