About MeSusie Cooper started work as a paintress at the Stoke-on-Trent company of A.E. Gray & Co. in 1922. Although Grays produced stylish modern designs, she was not content to remain with the firm as she wanted to have full control of the design process – both shape and surface pattern. She left in 1929 to establish the Susie Cooper Pottery – at that time a bold move for a woman. This popular pattern, Graduated Black Bands, was produced from around 1933 to 1940 and is seen here on her Kestrel shape.
More About Me
These cups were all the rage in the 1930s. Now seen by some as a bit kitsch, these art deco cups would once have been well sought after.
