About MeThe town of Anjera (now Khemis Anjra) lies in Northern Morocco on the hills to the East of Tangier. The residents of Anjera would come to the Thursday and Sunday markets held in the Grand Soko (as they still do today) selling their wares, including live chickens.

The people of Anjera are Berbers and have relatively pale skin and often light coloured eyes. James McBey was particularly struck by these Berber women and in works such as this he celebrated the ethnic beauty of the women of this area.

More About Me
The light skin tone contrasts with her black hair whilst the piercing light-coloured eyes hold you transfixed in this picture of a Berger woman from Northern Morocco.
