About MeThe sitter, Frances Gripper, was the American girlfriend of James McBey. She became his muse as well as his lover and photographs and paintings recall the intense nature of the affair.

In this painting a rich, red blanket slackens about her rounded form, its rich colours and exotic cloth turning her into a sumptuously wrapped gift. McBey had proposed to Frances in the April of 1929, this painting was completed in July of the same year. It was only a month after the painting was completed however that instead of marrying McBey Frances returned to America to marry her fiancé Robert.
