About MeLetter from James McBey to Sid Frank of the Royal Society of Painters and Etchers, dated 4 January 1921, related to McBey's rejection by the Society in 1911. In it McBey thanks Sid for his letter of the 28th (see ABDAG009096.2), stating "I appreciate your generous letter to such an extent that I have the greatest difficulty in replying to it."

McBey then explains that, while he was dissapointed to have been rejected at the time, he had received such success alone that he felt he had to continue working in this way. McBey explains, "After your Council's decision an attitude of independance was my only choice, and in this fate has been so kind to to me that I feel very strongly I must continue in it." McBey also says that he feels no injustice or resentment towards the organisation and never had.

The letter consists of one sheet handwritten.

This object is part of an archive that belonged to Marguerite McBey. As a result of her generosity, Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest archive of James McBey's work, including prints, drawings, sketchbooks, oil paintings and memorabilia such as this letter.
