About MeDame Laura Knight was an English painter and designer. She studied at Nottingham College of Art from 1889. Although she painted many different subjects her reputation as an artist was founded on paintings of the ballet and the circus. Here she has painted a similar scene, for beyond the two gypsy girls we can see the white tents of a fair. The dark coloured area on the left hand side of the painting could be the opening to another tent for the two gypsy girls, dressed in a colourful assortment of clothes, appear to be peering inside. One of the girls holds a crystal ball.
