About MeEugène-Louis Boudin is today recognised as an important precursor of Impressionism, particularly in terms of the influence that he had on the young Claude Monet, in encouraging him to take up landscape painting. Boudin seemed never to tire of painting his native Picardy. Again and again he studied the same views but his paintings are always fresh and spontaneous. Here Boudin animates his gentle vision with vigorous brushwork and touches of bright colour - such as the red on the stern of one of the sailing vessels and the larger mass of white laundry bleaching on the green to the left.
