About MeIn 1912 Pierre Bonnard bought a property called La Roulotte in Vernon (Eure) near Giverny, where Claude Monet lived. For the next thirteen years, until he moved to Le Bosquet near Le Cannet, in the South of France, the scenery around the house and the views from its windows were his principal inspiration.

Bonnard preferred the light and vegetation of the North of France and in this painting he concentrates on capturing the effects of a wind-blown sky and the burst of light that illuminates the land and sky before a storm. The scene is framed by the brightly coloured vegetation in the foreground, through which can be seen a smooth blue river and above it scudding clouds moving fast across a sunny sky.
