About MeThis wedding dress was worn on the 20th February 1965 along with a wedding veil, also held within the collection. The dress was made by Morrish, London.

Despite social upheaval and changes in fashion in the 1960s, sometimes brides still chose more traditional wedding dresses, like this one, with a scoop neck and a full skirt with a train at the back. In choosing this design, the bride may have taken inspiration from Katharine Worsley, who wore a similar style. She married Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, four years earlier in June 1961.

The donor, Peggy Walker, spent her early childhood in the Aberdeenshire countryside until her family moved into central Aberdeen. She taught dressmaking and costume design at the Northern College of Education in Aberdeen. She also made costumes for student shows in her role as wardrobe mistress in the drama department. She was an expert on historical costume and amassed a large collection that was donated to Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums as the Peggy Walker Gift.
