About MeMarie Laurencin was an illegitimate only child and was brought up in Paris by her mother, who was a seamstress. Through Cubist simplification and the primitivising influences from which the style developed, Laurencin evolved a very personal lyrical and decorative style. 'La Guitare' has a poetic quality. The figure of a woman, a decorative muse, is depicted in a harmony of blues, pinks and greys. Her characteristically simplified black eyes, the Laurencin hallmark, draw the viewer into the musician's dream-like state.
