The five-pound note of the series introduced in 1909 by the North of Scotland and Town and County Bank was very similar in almost all respects to the one-pound of the same series.
On amalgamation in 1907 the two banks operated under the name of "North of Scotland and Town and County Bank". In 1923 this cumbersome title reverted to "North of Scotland Bank"".
