About MeHenry Nelson O'Neill was a contemporary of John Phillip and a founding member of The Clique alongside Richard Dadd, William Powell Frith, and Augustus Leopold Egg. O'Neill travelled to the Far East as did many contemporary artists. This painting capitalises on the glamour that Victorians associated with the 'Orient'.

This eastern lady is dressed in rich, colourful silks. Her skin, pearls and gold jewellery have all been executed using detailed brush strokes in order to express their varied textural qualities.
