About MeThis is a typical example of the work of a painter so popular in his own day for his scenes of everyday rural life. His popularity extended to Scotland in his own lifetime and his pictures were amongst the models held up to the students at the Trustees' Academy in Edinburgh. Sir David Wilkie reported his delight on seeing an exhibition of Morland's paintings shortly after his arrival in London as a young artist. Morland may well have had more than a little influence on this leading Scottish artist. This painting contains some very well painted details eg. the flaming brand and the still life group of pots and faggots. Pigs were one of Morland's specialities and they are represented here to the right.
