About MeThe designer and social reformer William Morris (1834-1896) formed William Morris & Co in 1861. This company produced wallpaper, tapestries, stained glass, carpets and furniture which, although in a romantic style, was nevertheless quite at variance with contemporary Victorian fashion.

These black stained oak armchairs, with splayed rail back and rush seats were named "Rossetti" after Morris' fellow Pre-Raphaelite artist, Dante Gabriel Rossetti who, along with Ford Madox Brown, was also associated with Morris' firm. The style proved to be very popular and such chairs were produced throughout the firm's existence. They were also copied by other firms, such as Heal & Son.
