About MeWalter Richard Sickert was a major figure in the British art world, having returned to England in 1905 after periods in France and Italy. Within a couple of years he had established the informal Fitzroy Street Group in London and was the driving force behind the formation of the Camden Town Group. This painting of a Parisian theatre demonstrates the influence of Edgar Degas on his choice of subject matter. This is an unusual close-up view of a small part of the theatre - just one box with its four occupants. A mirror, positioned behind the figures, affords the viewer a glimpse of the performer on the stage.
