About MeWilliam Scott first visited St. Ives in 1936 and after the war he spent several summers in Cornwall. By then he had established an international reputation as an artist.

This painting may appear abstract but the simple flat shapes in the composition have evolved from still life. The artist has progressively become more and more interested in the formal concerns of his composition, rather than in the original subject of the work. The arrangement of colour and shape and the texture of the paint surface, are important factors, as the picture's title illustrates.

More About Me
The simple flat shapes possibly evolved from still life, but the artist seems to be concentrating on colour, form and surface texture in this rather abstract composition.
