About MeThis is a circular token of a simple, functional design having some decoration in the form of a beaded rim on both sides. The piece is inscribed on both sides thus: Side 1: Ruthrieston 1869; Side 2: This Do in Remembrance of Me.

Although this token bears the name and date `Ruthrieston 1869' it cannot have been issued by the Church of Scotland which did not establish a church in this part of Aberdeen until 1881. The Free Church, on the other hand, set up in Ruthrieston in 1858 and the token is almost certainly theirs.

The early appearance of the Free Church in what was then a sparsely-populated area on Aberdeen's outskirts was due mainly to the energetic efforts of the splendidly-named Mungo Fairly Parker who in 1858 became the congregation 's first minister.
