About MeThe highly acclaimed Scottish artist William McTaggart was born and grew up on the long, narrow peninsula of Kintyre and as a young boy, he was never far from the sea, with the keen salt tang in his nostrils and the sound of surf constantly reverberating in his ears.

In his art, McTaggart was responsive to the moods of nature and to quickly changing atmospheric conditions - landscape and seascapes remained his favoured subjects. In this painting, movement is expressed as the small fishing boat lurches in the swell, buffeted by the wind. A review of McTaggart's seascapes in 'The Studio', 1907, remarked that they "convey the idea of the living force of the boundless ocean in language that is unmistakable."
