About MeCarrier Belleuse at first studied metalwork and ceramics but from 1857 exhibited sculpture at the Paris Salon. He was employed in public projects for the re-design of Paris and his work encompassed many styles. His most famous pupil was Auguste Rodin.

This small scale bronze depicts an Undine, a water nymph. According to legend, Undines cannot get a soul unless they marry a man and bear him a child. Carrier Belleuse emphasises the sensual nature of this mythical being, as her fleshy sinuous curves emerge from tall water reeds.

More About Me
This figure is an Undine, a water nymph, surrounded by tall reeds.  She has long hair like a mermaid but has legs and feet rather than a tail.
