About MeThis copper alloy object was excavated at the site of the medieval Carmelite friary during the excavations there in 1994. This object may be a hinge from a book or casket.
Many copper alloy objects were found during these excavations. Many reflect the work of the Carmelites as preachers and teachers: book and casket fittings, candlesticks and keys.
Others, found in burial soils, include pins, twisted wires and lace ends. These were all used for securing the shrouds in which bodies were often buried. Iron coffin fittings and nails were also found in graves.
