About MeLace ends made from copper alloy were found during the excavation of the Aberdeen Carmelite friary in 1994. Leather or textile laces would have been used to fasten garments and footwear. These lace-ends were found in burial soils.
The lace ends are small sheets of copper alloy rolled into tubes. They are positioned on the end of laces and compressed to attach them to the lace (in a similar fashion to modern examples).
