About MeFollowing the merger in 1950 between the Clydesdale Bank and the North of Scotland Bank a new series of notes was introduced. The new notes were different in style from the earlier notes of the individual banks. On the one-pound note the arms of the new Clydesdale and North of Scotland Bank are displayed: below them, vignettes to left and right portray shipping and industry on the Clyde and a harvest scene. Most of the reverse of the new Clydesdale and North of Scotland one-pound note is occupied by a view of a highland river possibly intended to represent the Dee or the Don.

Since 1923 both the Clydesdale and the North of Scotland Banks had been affiliated to the English Midland Bank but a merger between the Midland's two Scottish subsidiaries had always been fiercely resisted by the North of Scotland's board of directors who wanted to retain a measure of independence for Aberdeen's sole remaining local bank. In 1950 the merger was finally achieved.
