On its obverse side the Town and County Bank's one-pound note remained as it had been when first introduced in 1825. An impressive-looking classical-style building is flanked by ovals containing the value of the note.
A crisis which affected both the English and Scottish banking systems in 1847 almost forced the closure of the Town and County Bank but it survived and continued to issue notes in the second half of the 19th century.
