About MeThe notes of the Central Bank show a view of the City of Perth and the River Tay. Below this appear female allegorical figures representing agriculture and commerce and an illustration of the bank's head office building. Features like these are standard on notes produced by the Edinburgh engraving firm of W H Lizars: this example may be compared with one printed for the Caledonian Bank of Inverness.

The Central Bank of Scotland, based in Perth, was established in 1834. For almost 35 years the Central Bank of Scotland functioned with modest success as an independent concern. It had, however, accumulated some debt to the Bank of Scotland by whom it had been assisted at various times and in 1868 The Bank of Scotland decided to purchase the Central Bank outright.
