About MeThis print is based on Phillip's painting which the artist retained - it is seen hanging in his studio in John Ballantyne's painting of Phillip's studio (National Galleries of Scotland).

A contemporary account described it as one of 'a pair of oval-shaped engravings ... Faith... was in fact painted by Phillip to realise the expression of earnest and unquestioning prayer he saw on a girl's face kneeling in the quiet corner of a church. [The Academy Nov 20 1875 p. 538].
