About MeGilbert Proesch and George Passmore met at St Martin's School of Art in London in 1967 when they were both studying sculpture. They came to public attention shortly after with their living sculptures, in which they posed with metallic bronze painted faces and hands, dressed in identical suits, holding their poses for hours on end. The photo-pieces were developed during the 1970s but it was not until the early 80s that colour became such an important element.Characteristically, each picture is made up of a number of separately framed photographic images which key together to make a single whole. The bright colours and black outline give the effect of a stained glass window. In common with a number of their works, the subject matter of 'Jungled' is both exotic and erotic. the suited men kneel before two enormous phallic shapes surrounded by exotic plant forms. They stare up in awe at the jungle which engulfs them. Here, both imagery and dazzling colour contribute to the sensuous nature of the work.
