About MeSusie Cooper started work as a paintress at the Stoke-on-Trent company of A.E. Gray & Co. in 1922. Although Grays produced stylish modern designs, she was not content to remain with the firm as she wanted to have full control of the design process – both shape and surface pattern. She left in 1929 to establish the Susie Cooper Pottery – at that time a bold move for a woman. In 1950 she began to design and manufacture bone china, establishing a new business entitled Susie Cooper China Ltd. In 1958 this company merged with RH and SL Plant and in 1966 both companies were acquired by the Wedgwood Group.More About Me
Susie Cooper left the pottery company she had worked for to set up her own business with full control of the design process. That was a brave and bold move for a woman in 1929
