About MeNavette shaped box with bright cut engraving and wriggle work along the edges. The hinged flush cover is fitted with an internal mirror.
Purchased from Birmingham by James Gordon who added his own punch IG before reselling. Birmingham was a centre for the box making industry and this object provides evidence of Gordon purchasing high quality ready-made items for resale in Aberdeen.
More About Me
Patch boxed were used by wealthy women to store patches, or artificial beauty marks. These patches were used to cover up minor facial blemishes, or subtly communicate with potential suitors.
