14/11/1848:
Frightful hurricane took place off Gothenburg, in Sweden, night of 25 October. The brig UNION GROVE, of Aberdeen, is totally lost at Fatholm. Crew saved.
(Liverpool Mercury)
The Cork Examiner identifies the ship instead as from Hull, but the place of the wreck is better identifiable, Saltholmen being a small peninsula on the south side of the estuary of the Göta river:
13/11/1848:
The UNION GROVE, Hendrey, from Hull, was wrecked at Saltholmen —crew saved.
(Cork Examiner)
This discrepency might cast doubt that this is the right ship, but UNION GROVE ceases to appear in either Lloyd's or the Post Office Aberdeen Directory after this date.
