Peter Mullan
Aberdeen, Scotland, born 1959
After graduating he began acting on stage where his prodigious talent was quickly recognised. Soon the world of film beckoned, and with an array of movies including Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, Braveheart and My Name Is Joe under his belt, Peter turned to film directing in the 1990s. He won a Golden Lion award for his hard-hitting film The Magdalene Sisters.
More recently he has starred in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, HBO’s Westworld and Sunset Song, based on the novel by Lewis Grassic Gibbon.
