John McLeod

Aberdeen, Scotland, born 1934
About MeFor over 40 years, Aberdeen-born John McLeod has been at the centre of contemporary Scottish music, and today remains one of the UK’s most prolific composers. John’s work, which has received many accolades and awards, has been commissioned, performed and recorded by leading orchestras across the globe. His north-eastern roots are evident in much of his work which has been described as, “granite-like, boldly coloured, charged with a sometimes-savage energy, and somehow thoroughly Nordic”.

In 1989, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music and in 2014 became the recipient of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors’ Gold Badge.
