Evelyn Glennie

Methlick, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, born 1965
About MeEvelyn Glennie is the first person to successfully create and sustain a full-time career as a solo percussionist, performing with some of the world’s greatest conductors, orchestras and artists. She has been profoundly deaf since the age of 12 and regularly plays barefoot to feel the music.

Growing up in Aberdeenshire, Evelyn was introduced to the music of the North-East by her father, an accordionist. This early influence shaped her relationship with music. In 1992, Evelyn became the first musician to perform a percussion concerto in the history of The Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. Today she is a leading commissioner of new works for solo percussion and holds a passionate vision to “Teach the World to Listen”.
