Burmantofts

founded 1858
About MeEstablished in Leeds in 1858, this pottery originally produced bricks and drain pipes from local terracotta clay. By 1881 Burmantofts Faience, a hard buff coloured body was used for art pottery. The firm made decorative wares modelled on oriental and middle-eastern forms and glazed in bright colours. It also produced a range of vases painted with flowers and imitating William de Morgan's Persian designs. The production of art pottery ceased in 1904, but the firm continued to manufacture bricks.
