Trial Trip.—On Thursday, the fine screw steamer EMERALD, lately launched Messrs Hall, Russell, & Company, went out to the bay for a preliminary trip, and gave great satisfaction, the speed obtained being 10 ½ knots on a consumption of six cwts. of coal. The EMERALD, as we formerly mentioned, is fitted with compound surface-condensing engines, of seventy-five horse-power, and is intended for the Japan trade. She leaves London about the end of the month, with goods and passengers for Yokohama, via Suez Canal.
