About MeAngus Neil was one of a group of artists living in the village of Catterline in the 1960s. Shellshocked in World War II - and further traumatised by the death of his friend and mentor Joan Eardley in 1963 - Neil was a talented but disturbed man, who spent his latter years in psychiatric care.

It was in Catterline that Neil would have painted this delicate study of dead flowers and grasses. Given that Joan Eardley died in August of that year it is very possible that he painted this work in memoriam to his friend.

More About Me
Given crocosmia, pinks and asters, this is probably a late summer bouquet, which may have been painted by Muir as a memorial to his friend Joan Eardley who died the same year
