About MeThe father of Jules Lessore, Emile Lessore, came to Britain and worked as a decorator for Wedgwood. Jules Lessore followed his father in this career, but then became a professional artist. His daughter Thérèse also became an artist and married the Bloomsbury artist Walter Richard Sickert.Lessore's treatment of these flowers owes much to the French tradition established by Chardin, of painting casually arranged groupings of wild, rather than cultivated flowers. Like Henri Fantin-Latour he sets the flowers against a simple, sombre background and shows them in strong light, which further enhances their striking natural beauty.
More About Me
Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin started the French tradition of painting casually arranged wildflowers and, like Fantin-Lataour, Lessore chose simple backgrounds and strong light for his floral representations.
