About MeCollier's work during his final year at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen dealt with recent news events. This painting was inspired by the death of the American baseball legend, Joe Di Maggio.

The title 'fin' (being the French word for 'end') takes up the cinematic theme suggested by the screen-printed images. The 'filmstrip' recalls Di Maggio's sporting prowess but also, with a timeless vision of a madonna and child, encapsulates Di Maggio's life story, alluding to both his Catholic upbringing and his death.
