About MeThis colourful terracotta figure of the Roman goddess of Plenty, Ceres (or in Greek Demeter) is located on top of the building on the corner of Union Street and King Street and is visible from Castle Street.

Chosen to represent the prosperity in Aberdeen in teh 1840s, the sculpture was designed by local artist James Giles for the portico of the North of Scotland Bank, designed by Archibald Simpson in 1840. The goddess is accompanied by a British lion and holds a cornucopia of the fruits of the earth. The London firm of Nelson Routledge Lucas and Company modelled this figure.
