About MeGeorge Cooper was an important silversmith working in Aberdeen in the first half of the 18th century whose work consistently rivalled the quality of that produced in Edinburgh. He played an important role in the public life of the city and took a number of apprentices. Cooper himself fashioned a number of star items in Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums' collection including the Kirkhill Tea Service. For Aberdeen this piece is of key importance to the known survival of early Scottish silver and particularly Scottish burgh silver.
