About MeThis tiny but delightful and lively etching was created by Rembrandt in 1631. At first he used a style based on drawing, as in this example, but soon moved to one based on painting, using a mass of lines and numerous bitings with the acid to achieve deep shadows and contrasting areas of light.

The etching was owned by the well known English journalist, author and broadcaster Bernard Levin CBE (1928-2004). He corresponded with, but never met, the donor's mother and left this print to her when he died in 2004.

Rembrandt's early etchings, such as this one, were based on drawings, but they later followed painting, thus becoming more complex
