About MeJohn Brown's death in 1883 hit Queen Victoria very hard. For a significant period after the death of Prince Albert in 1861 she had relied upon Brown to help her through her loss. In a letter of condolence to Brown's sisters she describes Brown as her "dearest best friend" and her grief as "unbounded".
