About MeThis cream net veil with a circlet headdress is believed to have been worn by Aberdeen bride Nan K. Cowie (nee Annie Kinghorn McHardy) at her wedding in July 1926, to Alexander Cowie who was a grocer’s assistant. Fabric flowers cover a circlet of wire which holds the double net in place.Mrs Nan K. Cowie was one of Aberdeen's lesser-known sporting personalities. She achieved distinction in small-bore rifle shooting in a career which began in the early 1930s and continued for two decades. During that time, she participated in competitions in Scotland, England and Ireland, most notably in the ladies' international small-bore event at Bisley camp in which she took part both before and after World War II. In 1950 she captained the Scottish ladies' team. In addition to her prowess as a riflewoman Nan Cowie also excelled in other sports gaining prizes in swimming, life-saving and table tennis.
