About MeThe beige and cream headdress has floral trimmings and a net veil. It is made of a wire hoop covered in fine ivory silk floss and is half-covered with ivory net. It features floral decorations made of net, ribbon and faux seed pearl rosettes, interspersed with covered lengths of wire tipped with faux seed pearls.
This headdress and veil were worn with a beige-coloured lace wedding dress and cape, also held in the collection.
The donor, Peggy Walker, spent her early childhood in the Aberdeenshire countryside until her family moved into central Aberdeen. She taught dressmaking and costume design at the Northern College of Education in Aberdeen. She also made costumes for student shows in her role as wardrobe mistress in the drama department. She was an expert on historical costume and amassed a large collection that was donated to Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums as the Peggy Walker Gift.
